Amidst the pressures of the present and uncertainties of the future, I often loose sight of God’s good gifts. In an effort to maintain a firmer grip on the reality of God’s love, I have committed to use space on Primitive Roads to reflect openly on one of His treasures.
For my inaugural Thankful Thursday*, I present a treasure very near and dear to my heart. Not everyone has a brother they can call a friend, a confidante, a protector. I do! Tim (yes, hubs has the same name!) and I were fortunate to have close sibling relationships modeled by our mom and uncles, so after 25 years, we remain close and connected.
Among other things, my brother helped shape my taste in music, influenced the way I view God, talked me through a few panic attacks, moved me into my college dorm room, interpreted my husband’s first Facebook messages, and walked me down the aisle on my wedding day.
A few words to describe Tim:
tenderhearted . witty . GQ . genius . trivia minded . artistic . sensitive . handsome . solitary . contemplative . strong . avid reader . a typical . sarcastic . loyal . current . quotable . high maintenance . scholarly . thoughtful . passionate . history buff . hooligan . anglophile . intense . strong willed
Tim is getting his Masters in Public History from the University of South Carolina in Columbia. He is 2,577 miles away and I miss him greatly!
Words from his favorite theologian:
Faith is a living, daring confidence in God’s grace, so sure and certain that a man could stake his life on it a thousand times.
{Martin Luther}
*A note on Thankful Thursdays:
I finally delved into Ann Voskamp’s lovely and challenging book, One Thousand Gifts: A Dare To Live Right Where You Are. (It’s a must read!)
Her charge to infuse gratitude into the one life we are given inspired me to make my reflections public. Plus, if you read the “About” page, you’ll know that I’m a sucker for alliteration – thus, Thursdays were the appointed day to broadcast my thanks.
